Reducing Computer Eyestrains

While working or playing on the computer, people may experience computer eyestrains. Computer eyestrains are one of the top office-related health complaints and can be very uncomfortable. There are many things people can do to reduce strains in there eyes while working or playing, here are a few:

1) Get a Computer Eye Exam:

One of the most important things you can do to prevent computer vision problems is to get a computer eye exam. Computer users should have an eye exam once they starting working with computers and one annually afterwards.

2) Proper Lighting:

Excessive bright light coming from the outside and inside often causes eyestrains. A few ways to get rid of exterior light is by closing shades, blinds, or drapes. Use few light bulbs or use low intensity bulbs to reduce interior lighting. Positioning your computer next to a window instead in front or behind will also help prevent strains.

3) Glare:

itself can cause eyestrains. Reduce glare on your monitor by installing a anti-glare screen on it. To reduce glare in the room you may want to move your computer into a room with dark color walls, or simply close blinds to not let to much light in.

4) Brightness of your Monitor:

Try to match the brightness of your surroundings to that of your computer. To do so there should be a button on the monitor that gives you a options to change the brightness.

5) Blink!:

When you work or play on a computer make sure you blink often, by doing so you can avoid irritation and dryness. Studies have shown that people that work or play on computers blink on average five times less then normal. This will cause the tears coating the eye to evaporate rapidly. If your eyes are already dry you can use eye drops or artificial tears to counter it.

6) Move your Eyes:

Every 30 minutes or so you should look away from your monitor, and focus on something else for 5 to 10 seconds. This will stretch your focusing muscles and help prevent strains.

7) Take Breaks:

If you plan on using a computer for an extended period of time, you should take 10 minute breaks every hour to reduce eyestrains.

8) Exercise your Body:

While using the computer, you should stand up and move around frequently. Don't forget to stretch your back, arms, legs, and other body parts too!
