11alive.com - Ways to Save: Eye Buy Direct

If you don't have 20-20 vision, you know how expensive eye care can be. After frames, lenses, optometrist appointments, you can be into some serious cash. But not if you know where to look.

Marian Clancy has been wearing glasses since she was 8 years old -- and she's had trouble seeing her way to any savings.

"Oh, it's outrageous," she said. "I think my last pair of eye glasses cost $500 -- and that's just not in the budget these days."

After reading an article in the paper about eyebuydirect.com, she said felt like she had nothing to lose. Their pricing is as low as $10-to-$20, and that includes lenses. You do need a prescription, and you'll have to plug all of that information into the Web site. They also offer the option of loading in a photo of yourself so you can see how the frames will look on you. After the glasses showed up in about two weeks, Marian was hooked. She said she like it so much she bought two pairs.

The site has helped Marian more than just with glasses -- she has three kids and her husband just found a job after losing it last year. She works as a consultant, but the down economy claimed all of her clients. Saving money is now a way of life for her.

"We've had to cut back a lot in this economy. But eye glasses are a necessity," she said. "We would have paid it if we had to, but this helped out a lot."

You should check with your insurance company to see if they'll cover a part of the cost for buying glasses on eyebuydirect.com -- if they do, then you'll be saving even more money.
